Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Everybody that wants to achieve a great quality videos knows that apart from getting the best possible camera they could find to fit their taste and purposes, they also need to equip themselves with a good gimbal stabilizer.

Setting up a gimbal with a dslr camera

So far, so good, but the choice of gimbal stabilizers is just as big as the one for the gimbals themselves, so how do you really make that choice?

Things get even more complicated when you have already invested quite an amount of cash in camera (or even a few) and your budget for the stabilizer that you need now is already sort of tight.

Here we offer you a short overview on one of the most affordable options for DSLRs, a gimbal that would perfectly do the job without breaking the bank and that is Andoer’s AFI 3-Axis Brushless Handheld Gimbal.

About the Gimbal

However, before we get to have a look at the features of the AFI 3-Axis Brushless Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer we need to clarify that it can only support DSLR or Mirrorless cameras that weigh less than 3.75 pounds (1.7 kilograms).

The camera models that would fit perfectly are Canon 5DII 5DIII,Sony A7II A7R2 A7SII,Nikon D750 D800,Panasonic GH4 and of course, quite a few more that have similar size and weight.

Camera setup

First thing is to connect camera into the gimbal stabilizer.

In the case of the Andoer AFI VS-3SD this is quite easy, as all you need to do is adjust the three red rods in order to balance your camera onto the gimbal stabilizer, you do not need any additional tools or a long list of instructions.

Once your camera is balanced, the brushless motors that this stabilizer is fitted with will help you get the smooth videos that you are after.

Being a dual sensor 3-Axis gimbal stabilizer the AFI will give you 360 degree of free and smooth movement with no dead augmentation.

Stabilization modes

The AFI VS 3SD 3-Axis Brushless Gimbal is equipped with are the three operational modes –  Heading Following Mode, Locking Mode, and Heading and Pitch Following Mode that will help you take professional shots no matter the angle that you take.

Of course, you also have a 32 bit controller that could support even an external remote controller that could be connected wired or wirelessly.

It enables you to switch modes on the go without the need to use any additional software, that is a great feature when you are filming some great action scenes.

The thing you need to have in mind is that it is a single-grip gimbal stabilizer and it might feel a bit heavy after some time and you also need to allow yourself some time to get used to control your wrist movement with it.

Overall review

The AFI 3-Axis Brushless Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer comes with two sets of batteries and it is supposed to give you about three hours of filming time, but after some test we have figured out that you only get around half an hour of quality time to shoot.

At the moment the AFI 3-Axis Brushless Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer doesn’t have a great score on amazon, but we think that this is only because the product is fairly new and is of course, getting the negative reviews first.

We think that the AFI VS-3SD does what it is meant to do and is a great value for money option.
