Product Description
Capture shots with DJI Ronin-M 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer that are impossible with any other setup. Switch effortlessly between the 3 modes of operation, without adjusting any settings or needing a 2nd operator remote. Weighing just 5 pounds (2.3kg), about half the weight of the original Ronin, the slimmed down Ronin-M is small enough to fit into your backpack and take anywhere, yet strong enough to support camera setups weighing up to 8 pounds (3.6kg). Save time and start shooting professionally stabilized video in less than 5 minutes. Mount your camera to the Ronin-M, quickly balance it, and then tap a button. The upgraded ATS (Auto Tune Stability) technology is more precise than before and completes the tuning and balancing processes with no tools necessary. It is easy and efficient. Capture tight shots, even when you have almost no space to work, and easily transport your Ronin-M. The top handle bars quickly and easily twist off, allowing you to minimize its size, achieve different shooting configurations, and pack or unpack it in seconds.Your Ronin-M stands up to rugged use in any filming environment. Featuring a superbly strong and rigid magnesium frame, the Ronin-M brings increased stiffness and reduced weight. Notoriously difficult to manufacture and mold, magnesium brings you a new, more exact shooting experience while maintaining easy maneuverability and increasing options on set. Increased rigidity is provided by a single, complete piece of fine-tooled magnesium that forms the U-shaped arm holding the camera plate. Only made possible by DJI's large manufacturing reach and expertise, this unified design eliminates imperfections that are common in systems made of multiple pieces assembled together. This arm gives you not only greater stability but also reliability, as there is no potential for separate pieces to come loose or move apart. Even with only one operator, SmoothTrack technology ensures the Ronin-M translates your movements into smooth

It takes time and practice to sharpen your balancing skills but once you get it, the Ronin M becomes a wonderful tool in your hands. I first tried to use it with my 5dMark3 and 24-104mm. I thought it was too heavy. Switched to my 70d and Sigma 18-35mm. Was still heavy. And balancing it with the 70d was harder because of the auto-focus of the camera. The auto-focus of the 70d creates little vibrations that throw the balance off. The system works fine when you keep the auto-focus off. The image wasn't as smooth as I wanted with the auto-focus on. I went back to the 5dm3 and 24-70mm and I got the perfection I was looking for. Once you get your balance, the next time things get easier. Now I can change lenses and balance the whole thing in 5 minutes.
Some advice: You have to play with different settings of the gimbal (on the DJI assistant app) until you achieve the perfection you want. Some settings I saw on Youtube didn't work with my camera and lens. I had to find my own comfort zone.
Play with the stiffness settings until the Ronin M behave as you want it to do. Adjust and readjust the speed of panning and tilting until the gimbal moves at the speed you want. Take your time and play with it. Forget about what you see on Youtube. Your settings will be unique to your gear.
The Auto-tuning of the assistant app won't help you much. You have to work the settings by yourself. From my experience, the stiffness of panning and tilting is perhaps the most important thing you need to get right. Otherwise, the camera will keep wobbling or drifting left and right.
Don't forget to calibrate the center when you use the Ronin M for the first time. That's something I forgot to do and the results weren't good. The Ronin M kept drifting to the left. Once I calibrated the center, the issue was solved.
Another thing, you need to buy a tall C-stand to hang this stabilizer. The tuning stand that comes with the Ronin is too short. You can't do many things with it, unless you carry a table around. A tall c-stand makes things easier when you're shooting. You can set the Ronin at your eye level and adjust the settings of your camera.
Overall, this is one of the best pieces of equipment I've ever bought. The footage it creates is unbelievably smooth and stable. It makes a huge difference in the quality of my video work. The battery is fantastic. It lasts forever. By the way, I received 2 of them. That was a surprise because I was expecting a package with one battery.
Will I go back to my Glidecam? No way. The Ronin M is helping me create shots that were impossible (or too difficult) to take with my Glidecam. The Ronin M actually combines several tools in one. It's a glidecam, a slider and a jib/crane combined. I was surprised at myself when I shot an entire event without using my slider and my Varizoom jib. I simply got all the shots I wanted with the Ronin M. Good job to DJI!
I waited almost a month calling these people weekly before I got an update. They said yes, it was faulty, and they approved a replacement. Cool I thought, finally making some progress. By the way at this point I have found out that DJI customer service is in China even though the Address online says California. I wasted countless hours of being put on hold and transferred from person to person and manager to manger with no help what so ever. This company hands down has the WORST!!!! customer service team imaginable! I just wanted to say that before I finish my story to give you some incite.
After waiting weeks again and calling every other day trying to see if the are finally shipping me a new unit I get no where. I freaked out and lost it. I finally got to a person called Anthony who would not give me their last name so I could make sure I stay connected with and hold accountable for some sort of action or follow up. He finally generated me a coupon for a replacement on their online store directly at DJI. I asked him why am i now having to essentially order a new one from your site. Can't you just ship me the replacement? He said no I can not. It doesn't work like that here at DJI!
So I finally just give in and try to order a new unit with this coupon he gave me and wait another month or so while the ship it standard. Well I go through the motions of ordering a new unit and the coupon did not work. I was charged again for a full unit. I can't believe it at this point. So I try to call Anthony back and can't get a hold of him because it is a fake or rotating name. So I get someone else after hours of being on hold and transferred from manager to manager. The said the best they could do is check with their boss!
At this point a waited in disbelieve for a couple days. Never heard anything back and called Amazon to tell them the story. The made notes but didn't do anything either. So I then called American Express to dispute the charge. I paid good money and now I don't even have the broken unit they said to ship.I have absolutely nothing but wasted time and money. Ammex is now disputing with Amazon and it still keeps going back and fourth. The worst purchase experience I have ever had! I know hate Amazon and DJI! They are the worst! No one should ever support these companies because you could just as easily be in the same spot as I was. They do not care about you at all and will make it impossible for you to win!
